Emory Police Training

Emory Police officers are required to be Georgia certified law enforcement officers. The Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training Council requires all police officers in Georgia to attend twenty hours of training annually after they attend the 408 hour Mandate training.  The Emory Police Department will offer over four hundred hours of In-service training to our officers in 2010 along with a number of specialized courses such as a forty hour Crisis Intervention Training.

The department’s instructors are required to attend an eighty hour Instructor course at a police academy to obtain a General Instructor certification by the Georgia Police Officer Standards & Training Council; an additional forty to eighty hours is required for specialized subjects such as Firearms or Defensive Tactics.  Our departmental instructors are often asked to lead classes for the regional police academies.
