Utility Infrastructure Planning
As a result of, and in complement to the latest Campus Master Plan, Engineering Services utilizes both engineering firms and internal engineers to perform Utility Infrastructure Planning. In addition, system conditions and maintenance needs are taken into account by all facets of planning.
Typically, a comprehensive Utility Infrastructure Master Plan is produced every 5 years in order to forecast utility needs for three years, five years and even up to twenty years. Utilities considered in the master plan include electricity, steam, chilled water, water, storm water, sanitary sewer and natural gas. From that plan, utility needs are studied in more detail as projects move forward. A rolling three year plan is forecasted for project approvals and funding requests.
We work with University Technology Services as they plan utility needs for telephone and data requirements. Engineering Services maintains utility maps showing each utility's connections and locations on the campus.
